The Beer Shop – a hidden beer shop gem

The Beer Shop sells a wide range of beers, ciders and perries that are not well-known brands. They are produced by small businesses using traditional methods and pure ingredients. Although these are alcoholic drinks, they are consumed with the primary purpose of enjoying the taste rather than effecting a mood change.

We sell locally-produced beers on draught and in bottle and also bottled beers originating in Germany, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands and the U.S.A. We offer up to eight rotating cask beers from local family-owned breweries and micro-breweries. The draught beers are sold in pint and half pint glasses for consumption on the premises, and in bag-in-box of all sizes from 3 litres to 20 litres for consumption off the premises.

Heaton Moor Beer Festival Fun

From 30th March to 1st April 2012 the Heaton Moor Beer Festival took over the Scout hut behind St. Paul’s Church in Heaton Moor.

Backed by Kro (who took on what was The Bakery a while back) this year’s festival was a fund raiser for Men Matters, a charity which raises money for the fight against male cancers. The charity is always looking for volunteers, and you can find out more on their website.

Part of the money raised was via Barrels sponsored by local businesses and groups. We jumped at the chance, and Fetch The Heatons was assigned to the Copper Caskade barrel, wedged between barrels sponsored by Pixie Bakery and TWP Solicitors.

Along with the great selection of beers and ciders there were various meat based edible treats including a hog-roast.

Stella Maris Pupils Reach New Fundraising Heights

Pupils at Stella Maris School were this week amazed to find out that pennies they have collected for Salford charity Caritas will – if placed in one long line – reach a distance of 158 meters or 518 feet; that’s the same as the height of Blackpool Tower!

Collecting since the first day of Lent – 22nd February – pupils have donated a grand total of 14,831 pennies / £148.31p to the Catholic charity’s Lenten ‘St Joseph’s Penny’ appeal which provides care and support for children and parents with family difficulties or where children are vulnerable and at risk. This year, money raised will go towards the Young Parents’ Service, which has been deeply affected by council funding cuts.
